"How do I
One of the first questions a woman who wants to leave a life in exploitation asks herself is:
"How do I support myself".
The reason Threads of Hope exists is to be a real alternative, to offer a permanent and fairly paid job to the women that dream of a better life.
Our program starts in the training workshop where the trainees not only learn to sew but also what it means to be employed in a regular business. Step one lasts between 3-6 months after which the trainee can apply to start working in the Threads of Hope business.
The trainee will be hired one day a week, while continuing to train and grow her skills. She will be hired on a rolling scale as her skills and confidence grow. When fully trained she will be employed full time.
The goal for the business is to be fully funded by sales. However, a new trainee starting her employment will not be able to cover the cost of this employment through the work she completes. A small item that may take a long-term employee a short time to make will take the trainee a lot longer. We want to continue to be a safe and supportive environment for traumatised women, but find it a challenge to cover the wage through sales alone. We don’t want to turn a person away and therefore we are looking for sponsors of this program and the people in it.
Sponsorship means that a woman can be employed to start taking a wage while taking the necessary time to learn all the products we sell and make them to the high standard we require. It means employment does not depend on being fully trained, but on her commitment, to make a life-changing decision for herself.
When you sponsor a woman, not only is she gaining employment, she also has access to health care, counselling, and education. By partnering with us, you help women trapped in exploitation find freedom and independence.
SPONSOR FREEDOM AS AN INDIVIDUAL
350 € ($400) may seem much to commit to every month for a full year, but that shouldn’t stop you from joining our Sponsor Freedom project! Every penny counts!
Let us give you some examples:
20 € ($25) /month - covers the full salary of one day per month
30 € ($35 )/month – covers transportation for the whole month
50 € ($55) /month – covers the salary for two days per month + all the fabrics and materials she needs for the training.
